This is the one no coach tour and no Florence-based company can offer you: to be at Podere Belvedere or a Crete Senesi ridge as the sun actually rises, you have to leave in the dark, and your driver has to know exactly where to stand.
I do, because it is home. We leave at 05:30, I bring coffee, and we chase the light for a few hours while the valley is under mist and completely empty.
It is a half-day rather than a full one, and easily the most photographed morning of anyone's trip. Bring a tripod.
Best from spring through autumn; I will tell you honestly if the forecast is not worth the early start.
