The drive
The direct way into the Chianti from the airport is the SR222, the road everybody calls the Chiantigiana. It leaves the Florence side and climbs onto the ridge, then stays up there: Strada, Greve, Panzano, Castellina, Radda within reach of it. It is slower than the raccordo and worth every extra minute — the whole of it is the view.
Which village you are heading for changes the last twenty minutes more than the first forty. Radda and Gaiole sit further east on smaller roads, Castellina is nearer the Val d'Elsa side. Whichever it is, the van goes to the address, not to the village square.
Landing at Florence Peretola
The airport is on the north-western edge of Florence, which puts the Chianti about an hour away without ever entering the city. One terminal, one arrivals hall, and I am inside it with your name on a sign.
Flights are tracked, so the pick-up follows the aircraft rather than the schedule. There is no charge for a delay and nothing you need to send me when one happens.
Arriving at a Chianti villa
Most people renting in the Chianti are not staying in a village but somewhere above one, at the end of a cypress-lined track that a satnav will happily lose. Unpaved white roads are the norm rather than the exception here, and the van is used to them.
Send the address exactly as the owner wrote it, including the frazione or the estate name, and I will work out the approach before the day. If a gate code or a call on arrival is needed, tell me that too — it saves everyone standing in a lane with the luggage.

How many people fit in the van?
Up to 8 passengers with their luggage, in a nine-seat Mercedes Vito. Groups of three to eight are exactly what the van is for — you all travel together instead of being split across two cars. For larger parties I can arrange a second vehicle; just tell me the number.
Do you charge per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. The price is the same whether there are three of you or eight, which is what makes a group transfer good value — the more of you, the less it costs each. Every journey is quoted on request, so send me your date, airport and group size and the figure comes back.
Which airports do you cover?
Florence Peretola (FLR) and Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) are the closest, both a little over an hour away. I also drive to and from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA), Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN), Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY), Venice Marco Polo (VCE) and Naples Capodichino (NAP).
Can you drive us to a villa in the middle of nowhere?
Yes — that is most of my work. Hotels, villas, agriturismi and farmhouses down unsealed white roads around Siena, Casole d'Elsa, Chianti and the Val d'Orcia. Send me the address or a map pin and I will find it; if the last stretch is rough, I will tell you in advance.
