The drive
Down off San Gimignano's hill, across the valley and up the other side. Twenty-five minutes, almost all of it through vineyards — this is Vernaccia country on the San Gimignano side, and the road never gets far from it.
It is short enough that people book it for dinner: a table in one town, a bed in the other, and no one at the table having to stay on water. That is a large part of what this run is actually for.
Leaving San Gimignano
The walled town is closed to ordinary traffic, so the pick-up is at one of the gates rather than at a door inside. The town is small, so this is a walk of a few hundred metres in most cases — but which gate makes the difference between flat and uphill.
Tell me where you are staying or where you are eating and I will name the gate. If you are out at an agriturismo in the vineyards below, that is a straightforward door pick-up.
Arriving in Colle and Casole
Colle Alta runs along its ridge behind a gate; Colle Bassa sits below with the crystal works and the shops. Knowing which half an address is in is the whole trick to stopping in the right place, and I live here.
Casole d'Elsa is fifteen minutes further west, and a good number of the villas out there sit at the end of unpaved roads between fields. Ordinary here, and included in the journey.

How many people fit in the van?
Up to 8 passengers with their luggage, in a nine-seat Mercedes Vito. Groups of three to eight are exactly what the van is for — you all travel together instead of being split across two cars. For larger parties I can arrange a second vehicle; just tell me the number.
Do you charge per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. The price is the same whether there are three of you or eight, which is what makes a group transfer good value — the more of you, the less it costs each. Every journey is quoted on request, so send me your date, airport and group size and the figure comes back.
Which airports do you cover?
Florence Peretola (FLR) and Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) are the closest, both a little over an hour away. I also drive to and from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA), Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN), Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY), Venice Marco Polo (VCE) and Naples Capodichino (NAP).
Can you drive us to a villa in the middle of nowhere?
Yes — that is most of my work. Hotels, villas, agriturismi and farmhouses down unsealed white roads around Siena, Casole d'Elsa, Chianti and the Val d'Orcia. Send me the address or a map pin and I will find it; if the last stretch is rough, I will tell you in advance.
