The drive
South past Siena and then out onto the Cassia, where the wooded hills give way to the open clay country of the Val d'Orcia. The landscape does most of the talking on this one — bare ridges, single farmhouses, the cypress lines everybody has seen in photographs before they arrive.
Montalcino sits on a hill above its vineyards with a fortress at the top; Montepulciano is further east along a ridge. They are about forty minutes apart, which is why almost nobody visits only one of them.
Transfer or a day out
As a straight transfer this is a one-way journey to a hotel or an agriturismo, quoted per vehicle like any other run. That is the simple version and it is what many people need.
The other version is the whole day: I take the group down, wait while you eat and taste, and bring everyone home in the evening — which matters here more than in most places, because Brunello and Vino Nobile are the entire point of going and nobody should be nominating a driver. If that is what you want, say so and I will quote the day rather than the leg.
Arriving in the wine towns
Both towns have historic centres closed to ordinary traffic, so for an address inside the walls the drop-off is at the gate. Both are small enough that this is a short walk rather than a problem.
Most of the wine estates, on the other hand, are out in the countryside on white roads, and those are door-to-door. If you have a cellar booking with a specific arrival time, tell me the time as well as the address and the day will be planned backwards from it.

Questions about this route
How many people fit in the van?
Up to 8 passengers with their luggage, in a nine-seat Mercedes Vito. Groups of three to eight are exactly what the van is for — you all travel together instead of being split across two cars. For larger parties I can arrange a second vehicle; just tell me the number.
Do you charge per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. The price is the same whether there are three of you or eight, which is what makes a group transfer good value — the more of you, the less it costs each. Every journey is quoted on request, so send me your date, airport and group size and the figure comes back.
Which airports do you cover?
Florence Peretola (FLR) and Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) are the closest, both a little over an hour away. I also drive to and from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA), Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN), Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY), Venice Marco Polo (VCE) and Naples Capodichino (NAP).
Can you drive us to a villa in the middle of nowhere?
Yes — that is most of my work. Hotels, villas, agriturismi and farmhouses down unsealed white roads around Siena, Casole d'Elsa, Chianti and the Val d'Orcia. Send me the address or a map pin and I will find it; if the last stretch is rough, I will tell you in advance.
